This edition of the Sideswept Dhoti comes in a subtle Graph Grey, a chambray weave using black thread on the warp and white on the weft, creating the illusion of a grey fabric. Appearing like points on graph paper, this soft chambray fabric was handloomed in Andhra Pradesh by rural handloom cooperative Dastkar Andhra.
Model is a US Size 4, wears Matter Size 1. 174cm tall.
PS. Due to the make of this particular Handloom fabric, this pair fits just a little bit smaller than our regular size 1s. There's no need to size down if you fall under the size 1 measurements, as it'll just be a little more fitted.
Wrap around the waist or hip for a snug final fit. Elegant and effortless, the gentle folds from the side pocket are balanced with side darts to give a skimming effect.
100% light weight cotton. Soft and breathable. Colour and weaving variations may occur, part of the charm of handloomed fabrics.
Changes in colour and structure with exposure to natural surroundings, washing or wearing may occur.
Wash separately in first few washes to prevent colour runs. After that, machine wash with similar colours. For best results, handwash cold or use delicate machine wash. Do not tumble dry. Line dry inside-out. Cool iron inside-out.
Love how these pants are so versatile style wise - dress it up for work or pair it down casual. The colour’s great and they’re comfy too! Just that the material seems pretty delicate & looks likely to rip around the seams from washing or just from getting into the car? That would be a major bummer if it happened for the $ paid
Bought my first pair of the sideswept dhoti and they're nearly perfect. I am 4'11 and the length is great, however, I wish the belt/ties were a bit longer. I can't do anything except a simple knot which can come undone very easily. But the colour and make are beautiful.
The sideswept dhoti are a work of art – such a stylish cut, and I’m in love with the handloom cotton. It’s soft, but textured (a bit like linen), and feels very wearable--good for everyday, but easy to dress up because of the cut. The fabric is also not see-through at all.
Fit-wise, I chose the handloom dhoti in part because they are supposed to run small; I can’t compare but I like the fit. I’m 5’4” and typically a size US 2 - 4, with a 27” waist and 36” hips. The pants sit high on my natural waist and hit about at the ankle bone, so I wear them cuffed. (Because of the textured cotton, the cuffs stay secure.) I have to pull the waist quite tight, to the point that the attachment seam on the inner tie is almost flush with the tie-hole, and with a square knot in the front the remaining ends are about 4” long. I do find that I have to fuss with the pants a bit to get them to sit just so; there’s extra fabric around the hips and rear that tends to pouf a little awkwardly if I don’t adjust them correctly. This might be in part because my hips are somewhat narrow side-to-side—I’ve got more going on the back, so to speak. Someone who was more of a pear shape or bigger overall might not have that issue. Regardless, it’s worth it. They are so flattering once adjusted and so versatile to wear. I hope to buy more Matter pants in the future!
Material was super soft and beautifully woven. Bought a size 2 as advised on the website about size running small. I'm glad I did as I suspect that the size 1 would have been too small. Having said that, it is still bigger than a regular size 1 in other styles, so can look slightly baggier. But still I love it and have actually worn this one more than my other sideswept dhoti because its so comfy. How I wear it is to wear lower on my waist and pair it with a shirt that I wear untucked, which still looks smart enough even for work.
The pants are a great style. I bought the #2 but they were too large and I exchanged them for a #1 that are too small.
